The Future (#2)

Several of you said you had no current aspirations about the future. By Wednesday, November 12th, please respond to this: There is an old saying that goes: "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Do you agree with this and why/why not? What are your future plans and how do you see yourself in 5 years/10 years?

You will only respond once this time. Please, think deeply and really consider your answer.

I agree with that saying. Why? um...because it's true. there have been to many times where I have had to do somthing that needed some planning out and some thinking time, by me not doing that those things fell to pieces and if they didnt completely collapse, they nearly did. My future plans include, going to college to further my education. I thought I knew what i wanted to do but now Im not so sure. But I am putting hard thought into that. Im the next decade or so, I see myself being happy. settled down with a special person and then planning a future with that person. I am working hard toward that. I have the examples in my face now all I have to do is follow them. Like I said before, I want to be just like my mommy!

I agree with that saying because when you plan things out your more likely to do what you've planned. There have been many times where if I wouldn't have planned i wouldn't have succeeded in what i wanted to acomplish. in the next 5 ot 10 years I plan on being settled down with my significant other and being a working women. I'm working hard at what i want and that's all that matters : E

I strongly belive in that saying. Everyone needs to have a plan if they want to succed in life. I plan to be doing something that makes me happy. I want to get a degree in early childhood education in the next five years.

Ok...so I guess I am going to be the first one to disagree, but I do not like that saying at all. I honestly do not believe that you can completely plan out your life, because life does not go according to plan, so it really is pointless. All you will do by trying to plan way ahead is drive yourself crazy because things will almost never turn out how you want them to. Granted, you should have a general idea of where you are going in life, but the more we mature the specifics of what we want will change drastically. And contrary to what most of us believe, we STILL have time to change our minds. Nothing is final right now. Where do I see myself in the near future? I see myself being an accomplished journalist and vocal coach, but other than that... I really can't tell you because I don't know.

It is good to sometimes have a plan. But life is crazy!!! And, you can never ever plan out everything. You can never control everything. So, you have to "roll with the punches!!"

In the next 5 to 10 years I plan to be near the end of my college time. And, working on starting a career, and my own little family.

For the next two years I just plan on finishing high school, and living life to the fullest!!!

The saying is old yet true. At anypoint in your life you could plan to do nothing then you will do nothing. in essence you will fail at life. My Plans for the futrue though they be few are common among most young people today, I plan on getting out of Rusk and becoming someone that people will remeber come 20 or 30 years after my years.

I agree with this saying because I have experienced it first hand. There have been multiple times in my life so far where I refused to plan ahead and did not recieve my desired results when it was over.

My future plans are to graduate in the top ten percent and then go to film school after high school. In 5-10 years I see myself working in the film industry, whether I am a director or not.

I agree with danielle, the saying only truly applies to schoolwork, there is no possible way that you can actually plan out where your life is going to take you.

i agree with that saying because i am the kind of person that likes to know whaat is going to happen before it happens.Planing is a great thin, it keeps you in line. In about 5 to 10 years i plan to be working i dont know what i want to do which really bugs me but i plan to have a good job of what i like to do. i do know where i would like to go to college so that helps some in my decision. if i havent found want i would like to be by the end of my senior year i will go to school to be a coach or a teacher.

TACO said...

i definately have to agree with this because if you don't plan things ahead of time everything just ends up in a big mess. so when you graduate it would be the best thing to plan what you want to do in life ahead. When i want to do something my mom always tells me to plan a long time in advance. i plan on first graduating high school then to go to college and get a doctors degree.in about five or ten years i see my self in college and loving what i am doing and knowing that it's the right choice. i plan on being happy. then i plan on graduating college and getting a good job to where i can support my family. i want to work hard and love what i am doing to get the things i need in life.

agree with the saying. If a person doesn't plan to succeed, to plan ahead, then they are more or less planning to fail. Within the next five years my intentions are to join the United States Air Force to become a pilot and afterwards to attend college and get a Master's Degree in Architectural Engineering. I am planning to succeed and move on in life.

I agree with this saying because it is true, especially for me. When you forget to plan things or you just don't want to then it comes back hard on your shoulders and it is hard to fix the things that you didn't plan. I cannot tell how many times this has happened to me. When I don't plan things out they NEVER go the way I want them to. My future plans are going to TJC for two years for my basic studys. While I am there I want to get my hospitality degree because I to be a chef and I believe that it will help me get into a higher position. After TJC I plan to go to a culinary institute to get a degree in culinary arts, pastry arts, or both. ( I can't make up my mind) I would also like to become bilingual. In the next 5-10 years I see myself living with the love of my life and being really happy with my career.

i dont really agree with the saying because things in life change so much! i think it is important to have what you want to do with your life in mind but not set in stone because you never know what will come up from one day to the next! There is no way to actually plan your life, there is only one person can do that! In 5 to 10 years i hope to have graduated for A&M and have a career and maybe a family. I really dont know exactly what i want to do though but i know that everything will work out and i will figure out whats good for me eventually!

I know I have already responded to this blog but the more i think about it the more I realize there is so much more I plan to do in the next five to ten years.

First of all I plan on gettin out of high school with as much knowldge as i possibly can get.
The summer I graduate i am planning on moving to florida with my grandfather that way i can attend college there. While I am there I plan on trying as many new things as I can. During these next few years I also plan on trying to figure out what i really want to do. I really want to be an English teacher, but hey I am a girl and I change my mind all of the time. After I finish college I am going to move back home. If I end up gettin my teaching degree I am considering teaching at a prison of some sort. Those people are important too no matter how many mistakes they have made. All the while i am achieving all of these goals I am going to be looking for my special someone. At the end of my ten years I plan on being settled down with the love of my life and working on my one true dream of being a mom.

I do agree with this saying because I know that if you don't ever plan anything, then nothing will ever really happen. Sure, you can "live in the moment" but that's how things end up messed up. Sometimes you have to plan things out in order to get the results you want. In 5 years, I hope to have graduated in the top ten percent and to go to Texas A&M. I'm not sure what i want to major in or what I want to study yet but hopefully I can figure that out soon. In 10 years, I hope to have graduated from A&M. I also hope to have settled down with a family and a good career that I love.

I agree with that saying because if you make plans for what you want in life you strive more for achieve it. If you didn't make any plans you have nothing, you don't know where to go and what to do, and before you know it, your in a pickle.

In 10 years, I see myself with a bachelors in secondary Education, and a masters in History from Texas A&M. Teaching dual credit history at a High School.

I agree with this saying because if i don't plan ahead then, i'm not gonna be ready for the future and what i want to become. In five to ten years i see my self in college playing golf, and studying Architectural Design or doing the pgm program at Sam Houston State University, which is to become a PGA professional, but my main goal in life, as in the future, is to become a professional golfer

I very much agree with this saying. Actually Sunday night at our bible study one of the things we talked about in Ecclesiastes was that if you don't plan things out then there not going to work as well as if you had. I truly have no idea what I want to be. I love math and some parts of chemistry so I'm thinking about maybe doing something in that field. But these past few months I've been thinking about the future God has planned for me, and what he wants me to do. I really think I can be a huge help to the ministry but I'm not sure what I would do there either. So what I see in the next 5 years is going to college possibly on a volleyball scholarship somewhere, preferably A&M, and doing what God wants me to do. As of right now though I don't know what that is but I'm very much content in not knowing and just trusting God and letting him guide my future instead of myself.

I have to say that i agree with that sayin. There have been many times that if i had not planed the assingment or job would have fallen apart completely and would had ended up with a bigger mess than i had started with.In five to ten years i plan to be married, have a family, have a job that i love doing and being able to live comfortably economically.

Alright, I have mixed emotions about that quote. I do agree that if you don't every plan anything out, then you won't be able to set goals to accomplish what you want. But at the same time, its impossible to plan out every detail of life. And just because you have a plan, that doesn't mean that it won't change. I'm only a junior, so none of my plans are set in stone, but right now I will attend college (TCU is the destination right now) and I'll double major in Spanish and Music, with an emphasis on piano/music education. God has called me to be a missionary to....everywhere. But Guatemala is first. This summer!!!! After that, who knows? Wherever He calls me. I'd love to be married, but if that's not in God's plan, that's ok with me. I guess the saying only applies to some things, because God is the only one in control of all my plans, and I can sit back and enjoy the ride!

Becca!!! said...

I agree with Ryan, that saying has been so proved in my life. Like studying for tests....yeah..not good! But you know, everything has a way of working itself out. No worries!

I definately do not agree with this statement. Your life can change in an instant. You can not plan out your whole life and expect everything to go exactaly according to plan. It is good to have an idea of what you would like to do with your life, but you always need to be ready to have an alternative plan (plan B) ready. Unexpected life changing events happen everyday, how you deal with them influences your life for ever. i think if you make a plan you plan to fail. In 5 to 10 years I hope to have a degree in communications from Stanford and be working at a Magazine or broadcasting for sports events, or possibly still playing softball. Opportunities are endless and I have a pretty good idea in the direction my life will take, but if something takes me off course I will be able to wing it and make the best of any situation.

I agree with that saying because when you don't plan what you are going to do when you get older then by the time you get to college you more than likely will have no idea what you want to be. When people do this they say they are going to hold off college for a year and most of the time they end up never going. When I graduate high school I want to go to college and further my education in the nursing fields. I either want to be a neurosurgeon, a RN, Pediatrician, or a pharmacist. In the next 5 years I can see myself in college classes studying hard and in ten I can see myself pursuing my dream of being something in the medical fields.

alexxx. said...

I strongly disagree with this statement. That's not to see that it's not always wrong, but mostly, whenever you don't plan and you DO fail, it is purely of coincidence. Planning something only gives you a foundation of how you WANT things to turn out; things don't alwasy end up the way you plan or want. Planning, however, can be good for that exact reason: it gives you a clue of what to do. I do agree that it is a little idiotic to run into a new school without learning anything about it first and expect to know everything, or expect to be okay. In these cases, it's probably best to plan, but that does not always mean you fail. For example, my dad got my mom pregnant at a very young age. Obviously, they did not know what they were doing or how they were going to deal with. They had definitely not planned. But over the years, they got through it. Now they have four intelligent and good-looking children, they live in a nice house that's paid for, along with paid-off cars that run well, and well-paying jobs. They made a new life for themselves after a terrible mistake. They failed to plan, but they definitely did not fail.

Where I WANT to see myself in 5-10 years is either in college or just getting out of college, and hopefully finding a good place to start off my career in game design. Where I actually SEE myself...I'm not too sure. Let's hope that I'm even still alive.

I agree and disagree with that saying... I know there are times when you need to have a plan for your life, but they aren't always going to turn out just how you want them. I would love to sit down and plan out my life and just wake up everyday and know just exactly how my life was going to turn out not matter what happened that day. It would be a relief to know exactly how you would make it in life and everything... but I know things don't always turn out how you want them to. In 5-10 years I see myself graduated from college with either a coaching degree or an athletic training degree... maybe a family.

I agree with the saying because there have been numerous times that I can think of, when I would put things at the back of my mind purposely just to forget about them. Me being the dumb one thinking that if I did that, that I wouldnt have to worry about them or actually have to do them. In the long run it's made my life more miserable. I agree that we should all have a plan, and we should totally embrace it! Within the next 10 years I see myself settled down with the unfortunate soul God has made for me... (just kidding I mean totally lucky soul!) hehe I see myself raising amazing kids and being a nurse. That way I can totally take care of the sick, and my kids when they get sick. I want to be able to help, and give back to the people that gave so much to me.

Sometimes when I Fail to plan and just wing it, things sometimes turn out not quite as hot as I'd like. So, I do partialy agree. However, Sometimes when you plan something out you might end up overplanning and not get the kind of natural results that would be produced otherwise. For example, this passed weekend some of our chuch's misistry girls were given the task of teaching a session at Fall Retreat. I had my whole lesson planned out and ready to go, before my youth minister took it from me to "check" it and never gave it back. At the session, my partner and I were forced to simply present the lesson from our hearts. It was a truely amazing experience. In most other situations, however, it's probably a good idea to plan ahead. As far as my future goes, I am planning to go to college some where and then proceed on to the mission feild where ever God wants me to go. The plan is still a bit fuzzy, but I've got a general idea.

Do I agree with this saying? Yes I do, there are things that are important in your life, like graduating, what you are going to do when your graduate, how are you going to support yourself. If you don't plan things like that out then you will surely fail. My future plans include attending a university and majoring in nursing. In the next five to ten years I see myself being happy with what I do and who I am with, and hopefully with a family but thats more in ten years than five. I'm a hard working person and plan to be so in anything I do.

I believe this saying is quite true. I have found many times in my life that simple disorganization and failing to think ahead have led to near disastrous results. Of course, life in itself feels like a collection of spontanaeity, but we must, if we are to succeed, think ahead.

As for me, I'm kind of in a deciding moment. I do love film and cinematography, but computer programming and the artistic side of things have really sparked my interests recently. More on this as it develops.

I honestly don't agree with this statement at all. And the reason, to me, is simple. Life is compltetly unpredictable. You can plan out your entire life and in one second, all those plans can be forever changed. I do think that planning is a good thing to some extent, but i do not think you will fail at a task because you failed to plan.
My future plans are to work towards getting my phd in English and teaching at a universtiy. Possibly Poetry or literary interpretation.
Then I wish to start a family and travel as much as possible.

I really don't agree with that saying because every single time I plan something it never turns out the way i planned it. That is why I am scared to plan my future. I dont want to plan things that will turn out the opposite way.I really dont thing anybody can plan their future because God is the only one who can decide who you are going to be. I mean I am not saying that you should just sit down and say that God will do everything for you. You need to have some kind of idea of what your are going to do in the future. In ten years i see myself as the owner of many clothes, shoes and jewerly stores. I want to study business managent, and own big companies.

I believe there is partial truth to that saying. But i do not think that it applies to evrything, school work yeah... And maybe college. In all generalization we can not plan our future, we do not know what is going to happen to us in the future there is no way that we can plan our whole life out and hope that it goes according to plan. There is just no way possible that can happen.

Ben said...

That statemnent is partly true, while having a plan is nice it is both impossible and foolish to try to plan out your whole life. You need a plan for things like college, future career plans, etc. For other things plans are useless. The variables change to much or you don't have a clear idea what you actually want or what's involved in getting it.For the most part having a plan is a good just keep in mind that sometimes its better not to plan out to much.

I totally agree with the quote. I believe that if you do not take out the time to plan for something, it won't turn out good at all. On the other hand though, if you do take out the time to plan for something, you will more than likely succeed with %110. I know of many of times that I have procrastinated on things (like Enlgish papers for instance) and did them the night before. By doing that, I made gerades that weren't so good. If I would only have took out the time to plan and brainstorm, I probably would have made a much better grade!!! In 5 to 10 years, I plan to be married and have kids of my own, along with having a very successful job! MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!

I agree with this saying, because if you do not have a plan to what you are striving for, then you probably won't reach what you are wanting. There are situations in life where people have no plan for themselves but still make it somewhere in life, I believe they accomplish it because of the good luck that they may have.
In the next five to ten years, I see myself being very happy. I plan on having my BSN and having a job at one of the hospitals in Tyler. I also see my self being married to a wonderful guy and planning ahead into the future for the two of us! =)

I do agree with this quote. I know many people that did not know what they waned for thier future, and ended up no where. Although, you really do want think long and hard about what the future holds for you if you think it out right. In my near future, i want to go to college, of course, to get a degree in my dream job. Then start a family. I'm sure this is the dream of many people, but there are actually few people that achieve their dreams, and i made a plan you be one of those!

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Do I personally find truth in this quote? I must say—not at all. For years I was determined to find my calling, be a Journalist and live happily ever after, but this year has changed my outlook. I have learned to live by one day at a time. Planning seems much too strict and rigid. I want the freedom to choose on a whim.

I may be okay at journalism, but I don’t see myself bogged down with work as a columnist in 10 years. I see plane rides to countries all across the globe, being fluent in five or more languages and learning more and more every day of my life. All of my dreams I want to include in teaching. Yet, teaching for me is embodied by the simple act of writing. I want to learn as much as I can in the short amount of time I have on this earth.

It appears that my comment has disappeared!! I know that i have commented to this post earlier, so sorry for the inconvenience! This quote is a quote that we may or may not apply to our life. I partially agree with 'failing to plan ahead is planning to fail', because throughout life we always need to know what we need to do. However, there are times when life throws a curve ball at us and we have to adjust to those situations. So all in all I partially agree/disagree with this quote. For example: I do not plan to fail this class, but without this blog in the gradebook then I fail! So sorry once again for the inconvenience.
